This 7-day cycling tour around Lake Constance offers a perfect blend of scenic landscapes, charming towns, and cultural highlights. Starting in Konstanz, you’ll explore the city before cycling to Uberlingen, with a stop at the botanical Mainau Island. From Uberlingen to Lindau, enjoy lakeside views and picturesque villages, followed by a relaxed day from Lindau to Rorschach with views of the Alps. The fifth day features a scenic loop around Reichenau Island, a UNESCO site, before reaching the medieval town of Stein am Rhein. Day seven starts with a train ride to Schaffhausen, followed by a cycle to the majestic Rheinfall and back to Konstanz via the southern shores of the lake. Finally, on day eight, you can enjoy more time exploring Konstanz before departure. This tour provides an unforgettable experience of nature, history, and cycling at its best.

Arrive in Konstanz

Upon arrival in Konstanz, the starting point of your Lake Constance cycle tour, you’ll have the day to settle in and explore this charming city. Located at the western tip of the lake, Konstanz is a beautiful blend of medieval and modern architecture. The old town is full of cobbled streets, and highlights include the Imperia statue at the harbor, the historic Münster Cathedral, and the picturesque lakeside promenade. The city is a wonderful place to get acclimatized and soak up the atmosphere of a lakeside town before the cycling adventure begins. Spend your evening strolling by the lake or enjoying a meal in one of the lakeside restaurants.

Konstanz - Überlingen

Distance: 48 kms (30 miles) / Elevation Gain: 466 m (1570 feet) / Saddle Time: 2.5-4.5 hours


On day two, the cycle journey begins with a ride to Uberlingen. The route offers a mix of lakeside paths and gentle hills, providing both scenic views and a relaxed ride. Along the way, you’ll stop at Mainau Island, famous for its botanical gardens. Here, you can explore the lush landscapes, vibrant flowers, and beautiful trees. The island also boasts panoramic views of Lake Constance, making it a perfect spot for a break before continuing the journey to Uberlingen. This picturesque town is known for its medieval buildings and lakeside charm, a fitting end to the day’s ride.

Überlingen - Lindau

Distance: 56 kms (35 miles) / Elevation Gain: 105 m (354 feet) / Saddle Time: 3-5 hours


The third day of cycling takes you from Uberlingen to Lindau. This leg of the journey covers a variety of terrain, from flat lakeside roads to slightly more undulating paths. The ride offers stunning views of the lake on one side and the Alps on the other. Passing through charming villages, cyclists will have ample opportunity to stop and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside. Lindau itself is a highlight, a small town located on an island at the eastern end of Lake Constance. With its picturesque harbor, cobbled streets, and medieval buildings, Lindau is a captivating destination to explore.

Lindau - Rorschach

Distance: 42 kms (26 miles) / Elevation Gain: 72 m (243 feet) / Saddle Time: 2-3.5 hours


Today’s cycling route takes you from Lindau to Rorschach, traveling through a mix of serene lakeside paths and quiet, rural areas. The terrain is generally easygoing, with some gentle ascents offering a variety of scenery throughout the ride. Highlights include passing through lovely towns such as Wasserburg and Arbon, each with its unique charm and lakeside views. Rorschach, a small Swiss town, offers both historical architecture and magnificent views of the lake. After the day’s ride, you’ll have time to explore its quaint streets and relax by the water’s edge, enjoying the Swiss ambiance.

Konstanz - Stein am Rhein via Reichenau Island

Distance: 65 kms (40 miles) / Elevation Gain: 273 m (920 feet) / Saddle Time: 3-5 hours


Begin the day with an early train transfer to Konstanz. Today’s route takes you on a scenic ride to Stein am Rhein, with a delightful loop around Reichenau Island. The terrain is mostly flat, following the southern shores of the lake. Reichenau Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is famous for its early medieval monasteries and stunning agricultural landscapes. After exploring the island, you’ll continue to Stein am Rhein, a charming town known for its medieval center and well-preserved half-timbered houses. The picturesque streets and lakeside setting make it a perfect stop for a leisurely afternoon.

Stein am Rhein - Konstanz via Rheinfall

Distance: 60 kms (37 miles) / Elevation Gain: 365 m (1230 feet) / Saddle Time: 3-5 hours


The final day of cycling begins with a scenic train ride to Schaffhausen, followed by a cycle to the iconic Rheinfall, Europe’s largest waterfall. After marveling at the falls, you will continue cycling along the southern shores of the Untersee, a part of Lake Constance, back to Konstanz. The ride offers a unique mix of urban exploration and natural beauty, with a relaxed and pleasant terrain as you make your way through quaint villages and peaceful countryside. Upon returning to Konstanz, you’ll have time to reflect on the journey and enjoy a farewell evening by the lake.

On your final day, you’ll have the morning to further explore Konstanz before departing. You can visit any sites you missed on your first day, such as the Rosgartenmuseum or the Sea Life aquarium.
